Mikey's Manger

escoteiros_do_brasil.png

One of the more rewarding aspects of our time here in São Luís has been our participation in the Brazilian Boy Scout movement. Among other things, it has provided incentive for some great father-son projects.

Mikey is well on his way to getting his "Bible-knowledge" badge, and one of the options for completion is the construction of a manger scene. As Christmas was approaching, we decided this would be a great project to tackle together.

Here Mikey poses with some of the raw materials we used. Fortunately for us, this is the time of year when people throw out a lot of pasteboard furniture to make room for their new purchases, so free wood for the stable was in abundance.

He came, he sawed, he conquered.

The finished project, on display at the Christmas program for the Ebenezer congregation. It was such a hit that the Boas Novas church asked that it be displayed during their program the next day.

Mikey Plays Futsal

Please indulge the impulse of a proud father to share photos of his son tearing up the futsal (a kind of soccer played on cement) court.

He plays on his school team (shown above) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and almost every day with the neighborhood kids. He had gone from not being able to do much to regularly scoring goals.

US schools interested in offering him a scholarship should contact me directly.

Moving Day

Many of you were aware that we spent last week moving from one part of Sao Luis (the Parque Timbira neighborhood) to another (the Turu neighborhood). We are very happy with the new house God has provided for us, and for the new area in which we live.

The official moving day was Thursday, and we did face some challenges when it came to moving our large sofa into the second-story living room.

Fortunately for us, our movers were up to the challenge:

Scout's Honor

This was supposed to post over a week ago, but I am just now working getting to a large and growing blog backlog. What follows are a couple pictures of Michael's and my promise ceremony with the Brazilian Scouts. Back when we started participating in the scouting program I decided that it would be something my sons and I participated in together. It was a special privilege, therefore, when we were able to take our official promise on the same day.

You can see more pictures of this event on our scout troop's Facebook page.
