Carpe Polycarp

This week I began a Sunday School series at our congregation called Heroes of the Faith. My objective is to familiarize our people with the history of the Church through the lives of the great men who helped shape it. (we started with Polycarp, hence the title of this post.)

In the course of my studies I came across a site that makes the classic series The Ante-Nicene Fathers available in several digital formats. In the interest of edifying the general populace, I share the link with you!

I've just begun an evening series of studies on "The Story of the Church." Anymore I refer to "the high profile church" as opposed to the church which is Christ's bride and body. I have grown more and more confident that the tale of the church which will rehearsed for us in the history lessons of heaven will indeed be a glorious thing. The one unfolding to the naked eye on planet earth is a lot less so.

Indeed. In reading about Polycarp I was impressed at how Marcion tried to sway the church (which was not yet close to becoming a state church, this was in the second century AD) by giving a huge financial gift. Fortunately, he was unsuccessful.
