Stuff that's Changed: McDonalds Has Become Starbucks
Since arriving in the US in July, there have been several changes we have noticed in everyday life in the US--things that were different when we left in October of 2005. Over the next several weeks I will chronicle some of them here.
First up, McDonalds.
When we left for Brazil, you could get two kinds of coffee at McDonalds: regular and decaff. Now, in addition to these two, you can get mocha, ice mocha, ice coffee (in several flavors including vanilla and hazelnut), caramel frappés and mocha frappés.
What ever happened to burgers and fries.
Also, where did the super size go?

2.Twitter (too much intricate info about other people's personal lives for my taste but nevertheless it prevails among "social networking")
3.YouTube-along with other video sharing sites
4.Digital TV- goodbye to analog (of course a far cry from us in the 80's who acted as the remotes for our parents- I remember the dual dial of UHF and VHF). For about a year straight in 2009- every few commercials was about getting a digital converter box and if you didn't what would you do without tv. I really wanted to answer that question.
5.Food Scares- several food borne illnesses struck the US- one was a massive Peanut Butter recall and more recently the Eggs were the ones to take the hit.
6.Presidential Leadership- for most of my life the only family that was in office was either a Bush or a Clinton- so now we have Obama that's different.
7. Redbox- they are even at McDonald's. It has changed the way people rent movies. NetFlix and Redbox have hit blockbuster from both sides-ouch. (this doesn't concern us too much but its a change nevertheless)
8. Kindle- a different way to receive books.
9. 3G- phone aren't just phones. They mutations.
10. Texting- I almost think the you can interchange the word talk with the word text. For instance please text your Mother when you get in the house- used to "Hi Sweetie, home from school? Want to talk about your day?"
