The Difference One Letter Makes...
Last night I was going perusing my student's blogs, and came upon this post. I know he meant to say "encarnação", which would have meant "incarnation". But he left out the letter "r", and so it became "encanação"--plumbing. Thus, the title of the article reads "The Plumbing of Christ".
Upon hearing of this, one of the guys in the class quipped "I knew Joseph was a carpenter, but had no idea that Jesus was a plummer."

Interesting! It is so easy to make mistakes like that. We have made many of them in the Sango language. One I remember was: Mbo at a normal pitch means dog but at a high pitch maeans snake. If a dog is coming at you it is easy to cal it a snake.

Bob, the whole thing reminded me of the story of the monk who mistook celebate for celebrate. Coincidentally, the culprit there was the letter "r" as well.
