Uncontacted Tribes in Brazil

This morning the blogosphere (at least the small portion of it that I follow) was screaming about uncontacted tribes discovered and photographed from the air. The following article is an example.

Most of the opinions expressed in the blog articles can be summed up this way: "We should let them live in the stone age, and try to learn as much as we can from them."

In other words, anthropologists can exploit them, but missionaries must not try to help them, and they must be relegated to a primitive lifestyle for ever.

Yeah...that's compassionate.
An Indian tribe that has had no formal contact with Western civilization has been located in a remote Amazon region, federal authorities said Friday.
In this image made available Thursday May 29, 2008, from Survival International, showing ‘uncontacted Indians’ of the Envira, who have never before had any contact with the outside world, photographed during an overflight in May 2008, as they react to the overflight at their camp in the Terra Indigena Kampa e Isolados do Envira, Acre state, Brazil, close to the border with Peru.

Andrew, I saw this early this morning and wondered if you'd be on top of it. I suppose their "no contact with the outside world" has just ended. Let's pray that the Lord's hand is on the situation.

Maybe there's no answer to this, but are there people in Brazil who would know their dialect, or one similar to it? Also, just out of curiosity, how far away are they from civilization?

I was having these same thoughts as I read the story on the BBC this morning. They made their culture out to be 100% pure, innocent and in tune with nature; even after readily admitting they knew nothing about it. They made an effort to contrast it with our utterly corrupt, earth-destroying abomination of a society. I guess we are supposed to feel guilty for things like modern medical and dental care and education! The first thing I did was pray that the gospel would reach them; even if it takes using the evil means of modern technology like airplanes and ATV's to get it there.

The anthropologists are fine with eternal souls in hell, but they reject the Gospel anyway. Their god is their studies, and their compassion is to leave people at the mercy of nature, diseases and ignorance. Is that really the compassionate thing to do?

Yes, we saw this picture on T-V and it reminded us of Nate Saint and the group of missionaries that did reach a group of natives back in the 1950's. May God's mighty hand reach these people also.
