Should Brazil fear Venezuela?

I think Brazilians should at least take the Hugo Chavez threat VERY seriously. Ironically, thanks to a comedy bit that ran on Brazilian TV a little while ago, Brazilians are starting to talk about the subject.

Here, complete with English subtitles, is the piece:

Also, living as I do in the shadow of his statue in Juazeiro do Norte, the line about Padre Cicero was priceless.

That was priceless! Hey, it was in jest, but Chavez is a nut- and in his lust for power could become a danger to surrounding Countries- like a little Hitler.

Oh indeed. The manifold similarities between Hugo and Hitler--the trajectory of their rise to power, anti-semitic leanings, etc--are scary.

My hope is that Lula is replaced with someone who is more conservative- someone who will oppose Chavez and Morales in Bolivia. I do not trust them. We have relatives in Manaus, and that is closer to Venezuela- and almost between Venezuela and Bolivia. If the Socialists there ever decided it was time to expand, Northwestern Brazil could be vulnerable. I do not trust them or Brazil's security with madmen on the borders. (Just my rant, sorry)

I agree, although Lula's attitude toward Chavez has cooled in the last few months. I think Brazilians as a group are getting tired of Chavez, and are a little put off by his rantings. I was amazed that, after the Bolivian Petrobraz incident, Chavez and Morales were not more of an issue in the last election. Perhaps this next election be different.
