Brazil to Iran: No (More) Nuclear Technology for You
This day-brightener appeared in my inbox this morning:
Brazil implements U.N. sanctions against Iran - International Herald TribuneSAO PAULO, Brazil: President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed a decree Thursday enacting a recent United Nations resolution banning the sale and transfer of nuclear equipment and technology to Iran, the foreign ministry said.
This is good news on a couple levels. First off, Brazil has usually aligned itself with leftist leaders such as Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales, who are quite eager for Iran to develop the bomb. For Lula to make this kind of a break with them is momentous, and signifies what may be a growing rift. This is a good thing.
Another reason is found later on in the same article:
Brazil has the world's sixth largest uranium reserves.
Can you imagine the sixth largest uranium reserves being at Iran's disposal? I, for one, am very glad that door has been closed.

This is good news! Chavez is a madman and is sucking people in by their own selfishness (take from the "rich" and give to the poor- although the gifts his type give are worthless and short-lived, ask the Cubans- especially in Miami).
I do have a concern about his later intentions with his neighbors (mainly Brasil). What does he intend? To maintain power with his military or to enlarge his territory? At least at this point his military is much smaller than Brasil's and Argentina's which is a relief.
