History of Religion
Via Hot Air, this map should be useful to anybody involved in missions.
I agree with one of the comments over at the Hot Air post. The one major flaw of this map is that it does not recognize Marxism as a religion.

I don't know, I have a lot of issues with this one. I suppose it's trying to focus on current world religions, but it misses out on some major religions; animism and polytheism, baalism, etc. It makes it look like most of the world had no religion for most of history.
From a Christian standpoint, of course, it misses the continuity of monotheism and worship of the true God. And unlike world empires which are often quite geographically based, religion is not. It misses the huge worldwide impact of Judaism, of Islam (where are all Europe's Muslims, a huge factor today?)
Anyway, it's interesting but I really think it gives some false impressions. You're right about Marxism too, another major "religion" - or you could say "atheism". It's said that more people have been killed in the name of atheism than any other religion, and yet it doesn't show on the map.

Good points Jim. The website says the map gives "a brief history of the world's most well-known religions: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism." I think it accomplishes that.
The impression of no religion in certain regions until recent history is definitely strange and deserving of at least a footnote from the creators, IMO.
Regards.

What I like about the map is the mental image it provides. The fact that it is only 90 seconds long definitely limits its scope. If it were to attempt to track the growth of all religions, perhaps 90 minutes would be needed.
Good comments all, and thanks for stopping by.

Nice find Andrew. I saw a history of the Middle East one earlier this year from the same people. They sure are putting out some interesting stuff.
