Please Say This Isn't True...
...although I am sure it probably is. It seems that there is now going to be a "Christian" version of the TV show American Idol.
One of my pet peeves with the Christian Music industry is that it seems to be content to offer cheap imitations of whatever secular music was in style a few years ago. This, however, is a new low.
When, oh when, are the Christian arts going to stop aping what the world does, and come up with something that is original?

Unfortunately, there are those amongst us that believe that unless it is Southern/Country Gospel flavored music or traditional hymns, it is not suitable Christian music. Nothing is farther from the truth. We need to reach people where they are, and that means using all types of musical forms as long as it is being done in a manner to promote the name of Jesus Christ in a positive manner, and that those who are doing the music are "walking the walk" as well as "talking the talk". If that means using rock/rap/hip hop, by all means do it. As a matter of fact, churches and other groups are already doing it with success across the country.

There is a big difference between seeking effective methods of reaching the lost, and "Christian marketing". If you check out the link to the article, it becomes pretty obvious that what we have here is not a Christian seeking to be "relevant", but a secular company looking to tap into the Christian market base.

*sigh* - wow that's rediculous. Makes you wonder, whill they have someone ridicule those poorer contestants too? -- cause boy that would show the good ol' Christian spirit...oh wait that's just what happens at board meetings.
