How Many is Too Many?

I have often heard from pastors that they would have us in their church if we were going to any other country but Brazil. "We already have too many missionaries in Brazil" is their reasoning. According to this website, the Mormons have approxamately 5,000 missionaries in Brazil. If you add up all the fundamental, Baptist missionaries currently serving in Brazil, it does not even come close to half that number.

While I can understand the sentiment of these pastors, to some degree... Wanting to spread the wealth and such, I think they're being awfully silly at the same time. I don't really think it matters where a missionary is a missionary to in the sense of giving support and allowing the missionaries to visit.

If it were just a question of their church already supporting enough missionaries to Brazil, that would be understandable. But their reasoning is that there are too many missionaries in Brazil in general. There are way too many MORMON missionaries in Brazil, but the true missionary efforts in Brazil are woefully understaffed.

That is too bad that pastors have given that type of response to you. If there is a need in any country (as there is in many/most) we should be falling over ourselves to support missionaries to go there, no matter where our other missionaries are from. I have since this summer ran the idea of asking you (through my dad/the church) to come to our church, but seeing the way things are going right now, we are supporting many and there just isn't any more money - but hopefully someday, our church will grow and we can extend our ministry through missionaries to brazil!!

Is there even such a thing as too many missionaries? I mean come on these people give their lives and no matter where you are in the world, there will be churches and people in need of them... where are they lacking them in the first place?
